Face pressure
« on: January 19, 2021, 08:22:14 PM »
I've noticed, and this isn't something new,  that when I really bury into my anchor into my face I occasionally get erratic arrow flight. It really shows itself on longer shots say past 20 yards. But if I lightly get into anchor or don't intentionally bury into my cheek corner of mouth I always get clean flight. My guess is that when I settle in deep I'm experiencing a minor creep or relaxing just slightly enough to cause the sloppy release but I was interested in what the pros had to say. Thanks in advance.

I'm no “pro” but my experience has been that if the pressure of my hand against my face is a result of back tension pulling my hand into my face as my elbow moves around toward my spine, it doesn't result in erratic arrow flight.  If I press my hand against my face directly, it does result in erratic arrow flight.

I think you hit on it ... as for a good/smooth release the hand and forearm must not be tense, but should be 'loose', less the fingers of course. But to drive your fingers into your anchor like that, you're likely using your forearms and that's now under tension/force and impeding a smooth release, or the release you're accustomed to.
