Wood Arrow ?
« on: January 01, 2021, 12:51:27 PM »
With the different wood arrow topics,I think I'd like to try and make my own. What spine would I use for a 45# to 47# recurve ,cut to past center bow, drawn to 27 1/2 inches, using old Bear Greenies broad heads. Is there a formula for that? Thank you

Need a BOP length, to get ya started. An extra inch or so makes a difference.

I shoot 42# @ 28" draw. Arrows are 29" BOP. 125gr field points or Bear Greenies.  45-50# spine. :archer:

Assuming an arrow cut to about 29 inches BOP, and assuming you have a low stretch string and fairly high performance bow (indicated by the arrow shelf cut past center) and the fact that the shelf is cut past center, I'd say 55-59#.  Even then you may need to build out the side plate a little.

I'd go with 55-60# spine. Shot those out of all of my 50-55# recurves for years, before I dropped weight this year.

If they seem a little stiff, put a few 145gr field points on, and try them. If that corrects things, you might want to drop down to 50-55# spine. I think the 55-60# will work just fine for you.
