another arrow spine question
« on: April 23, 2008, 03:34:00 PM »
How much effect does the weight of your point have on the spine of the shaft?
I have some beman 500's that fly pretty well out of my 48@28 longbow with 125 grain field points.  The shafts are full length.  I also have 45# and 47# recurves that like arrows that are too stiff for the longbow.  I've read threads where some guys have claimed that they shoot the same shafts out of several bows with a range of draw weights.  Do they tune simply by changing front end weight?

It depends on a lot of things.  Mainly it depends on if the bows they are shooting are center cut or not.  Being center cut gives you more freedom with arrow spine than being cut shy of center.  Also you are fighting recurves vs. longbows which generally a recurve will take a heavier spine than a longbow by as much as 10-12 pounds.  I am sure some guys with more experience can elaborate a little more.
