Automotive finish????
« on: April 24, 2008, 07:28:00 PM »
Any of you guys ever take a Bow to a Auto repair shop and get them to put a Automotive finish on it for you? I have a bow that needs re-finishing and I have it all sanded FINALLY, Thunderbird is some tough stuff to remove. I dont have anymore thunderbird and I hate to buy a whole kit for one bow so I was considering taking it to a body shop but wasnt sure if what they use would work on wood and glass.

I've sprayed a dozen or so bows with auto-clear coat.  Make sure it has the flex agent in it or the finish willeventually crack on you. The only drawback is it comes out REAL shiny.  But you can dull down by wet sanding it.  That will make it look pretty rough, but when you rub it down with a buffing compound it will bring it back to a nice luster.  Just a little bit more shine than T-bird.  But it's alot of extra work.

You can rub the shiny off with Pumice or Rothensburg stone powder or toothpaste!
Aim down your arrow because thats where it's going.
