Tom Clum's Solid Online Course
« on: May 25, 2021, 02:20:03 PM »
I have never taken any shooting lessons for instinctive archery, and I am not aware of any coaches near me in SE OK. Recently,  I have been watching free videos of Tom Clum teaching his shooting method, and have become intrigued with his teachings. Has anyone purchased or have lessons from him that would like to comment on?

I have watched a few of his videos and would be curious about his classes also.

I have taken his online course, and as you say, it is “solid.”  I recommend it to anyone.

The interesting thing to me is that we are a part of a continuum.  It's not like the latest iPhone, that is the result of 40 years or so of development.  Humans were providing their families with meat using the bow 40,000 or more years ago.  A relatively small group of Welsh archers defeated the entire French army on at least two occasions about 800 years ago.  I think they knew what they were doing, perhaps better than we know today.

So yes, don't pass up any opportunity to learn to shoot the bow better.  Just keep in mind that there is more than one way to skin a cat.

A bloke organised for Tom Clum to come down here to Australia in March last year and deliver a weekend clinic to a bunch of keen archers. I was really looking forward to it but COVID shut things down a week or two before the clinic. When I got my money refunded I went online and bought his Solid Archery Mechanics course on The Push and haven't looked back. I haven't gone through the whole thing but I've looked at bits and pieces over the last 12 months or so and it's worked wonders for me. Granted, I was never very good or experienced to begin with, but I shoot reasonably heavy bows and it's stopped me injuring my shoulder for a start.

He is a great teacher, makes total sense, and it is money well spent.

I have taken the course and had a lesson from him.  The course is worth the money - it can be referenced for years. It has feedback from Tom if you choose to ask questions.

The lesson was even better because it cleared up some positions and questions I was making assumptions about incorrectly.  For example, my string elbow was too low to allow for full back tension because I was concerned it was going to be too high.  Tom spotted this and it made a huge difference immediately.
