Forge ?'s
« on: April 23, 2020, 11:20:37 PM »
Ok. with all the Covid-19 stuff going on I had to abandon my projects and go to the lake to get some distance between the relatives and the family (my kids kept going over to Gmas house and thats not how this works). We came home and I was able to get back to making my small firebrick forge.

So now here is my question. Why will it not run efficiently? All I get is a dull lofting blue flame. Is is a regulator issue? I borrowed the regulator off an old Kingkooker burner. I've read that I need 30psi (I have no idea what this regulator is)

The burner tube is 8 1"x 8" blackpipe with extra holes drilled for air intake.

Thoughts?

The only burners I've made have been with electric squirrel cage fans so I'm not familiar with that one, but I've noticed that brick or castable refractory takes a lot longer to get up to operating temp than kaowool blanket with a thin coating of satanite. Wonder it just needs to heat up a while to get running good?

I have an old high pressure regulator I haven't used in years that you can have if you want to try it.  I'm out of town with work this weekend but should be back Monday. I live in Bastrop.

what size orfice are you using?  I never run past 15psi with a setup like that.  I do have a ribbon burner that i usually run 4psi
