Dedicated Black Widow

I have posted threads earlier about dedicating something in my grandfathers memory, but unfotantly when I ordered my first Widow last year and thought of the idea about putting his name on the bow it was to late because they were finished with it already.  Well Grandpas barely hanging on, and in the hosipital again, and  was going to order one anyway. So I rushed up there this morning with the 2008 spring catalog and went to his room and told him to pick out the bow he likes the best (pg 4-5), and he had picked out the PL X Osage long bow. So that is what I will shoot!. It will be 58 lbs (because that is how long they will be married next week) at my draw. There will be a dedication for grandpa under my name ( if thats ok with Rodger to do). I hope it gets here before he passes! I went on black widows website and they will be closed this week due to turkey season, but will get it ordered it ASAP! This is the only thing I can think of so I can take him out in the woods with me. How do honor a man that is responsible for the man you've become? This is way I can. Thanks for your time guys.

I have a hard time posting to these kind of threads because I feel there is nothing I can say that will make things better.

I will say however, that your Gramps and my Gramps probably came from the same mold, and I completely understand your thinking with the 'bow dedication'.

Just think were or what that bow will be doing when you are in the same position of your Grandpa.

 I lost my Dad in Nov 07'. I ordered a Toelke Whip. Dan put writing on the bow in memory of my Father with the dates of his birth and death. It will be given to my son one day. I hope and pray your grandfather hangs around to see your bow, I am sure it would put a smile on his face. Absolutely agree with you. I wouldn't be a tenth of what I am without him growing up.

I'm overwhelmed by your story. My grandfather "Pa" was my idol and we worked the farm together every chance, weekends and after school everyday tending cows, fixing fences, planting the garden, etc. After moving to town, I'd go out every Sunday and mow the big yard myself with a push mower. After he died, I couldn't go there anymore for many years. Even then I expected to see him again when I pulled into the driveway. He knew I loved him very much. Your grandfather knows and is proud of you. Thanks. God Bless you and him with peace, comfort, and understanding.

I know that Roger will have no issues at all putting a dedication on your PL. He has went above and beyond printing quotes/bible verses ect. on my widows.
What a blessing grandparents are. Mine were all gone before I was five years old. Treasure every minute.

I was thinking of my grandfather this morning. He loved to rabbit hunt and anways had a burlap bag with a strap sewn on to carry the rabbits and an old double barrel shotgun.He always reminded me of Fred Bear, only he didnt bowhunt, the way he looked and he wore a hat like Freds. One of the last times we went hunting when he was getting sick (cancer) he walked what was probably 1/2 mile across a field to hunt and could only take 5 or six steps before stopping to rest. That is one of my fondest memories of him. I hope I have that kind of drive when I get old. On another note (I love Black Widow bows) if he knew I was spending that much money on a bow he would turn over in his grave.
 It will be a fine tribute to your grandfather.

A good way to honor your grandpa!

I wasn't fortunate enough to be able to do that, I lost both of mine at a young age. However, when I do hunt I make sure to think of them and I know they are with me. A few times I've even caught myself talking to one of them after something has happened in the woods.

I did the opposite on new FireFly, I put a dedication to my son on it (he's only 18 months now).  Hopefully someday he'll be able to see pictures of the bow with me on hunts and if I'm lucky he'll even hunt with it one day!

Both of my parents dads passed before my birth.
I have my grandfather's big 10 point whitetail rack mounted in my den, though. He killed it in the '20s probably. And a picture of him and a pile of deer, including the 10 pointer that were killed that day, that I treasure.

It is difficult to lose a father or Grand father.  I lost my father in 1993, he taught me to hunt and fish.  Although he never bow hunted, and passed before I could get him into the sport, he is always in my thoughts, even more so when I am afield.  

I am going to take a page from your book
frassettor, if you don't mind.  I have a PL III on that *-Bay site right now.  I have a PLX Osage and thought that getting rid of this one would allow me to purchase as PSR.

I will also request a dedication to my Father to be placed on that bow.  Something simple, In Loving Memory of My Father Junius "Bill" Williams.

   As stated above, I love BW bows, have owned several of them still have a couple they are worth every penny IMHO. Its just that my grandfather was, well..cheap. He didnt even own the old shotgun he hunted with. saved oil from the car to run in his lawnmower(and it used a lot of oil) twisted wire to make swivels for fishing. But he took time to take me hunting and fishing. Quick story: I used to hate school and would be sick every chance I got.I stayed with my grandfather if I missed school. Several times as soon as the school bus left he would say "you feel like going fishing?" and we would spend the day fishing.

The coolest thing about your grandpa, Rick, you are every bit of him, is every bit of you, it's all inside you, waiting to come out, waiting for that right moment, the transfer from you to your son, and to your son's son.

That's the best part it never ends, there will be things that you will do with your son that will be every part of your grandfather.  It looks like God has been good to you through your grandfather, and most of the time our lives are shaped by a grandfather or grandmother more so then our parents, your life is probably filled with stories, and those stories will become your son's treasures, because they tell him a lot about you.

Do you remember... The first time you took me squirrel hunting or the time we were house burnt so you decided a good snowball fight was in order? You know I have never forgot the day you dug me a Campbell's soup can of redworms because you knew just where to find them by the barn and I was afraid of the bull. You had the back field to plow but you knew taking time for your grandson was more important than ten fields. I also remember the time I grabbed the baby chick and that hen rode me all the way to the house. Oh yeah thanks for laughing until you were holding your sides and tears ran down your face. You remember the day I caught all those bluegill and you bragged on me for an hour because you had never seen such big fish? Pa I'm honored to have been your grandson and I'm passing it on to my grandchildren. I still miss you but someday I know we will meet again and when we do I can't wait to tell you what you're great grandchildren have been up to.
