Kenny, that is so much like my hunting place that it had me sitting here with my mouth open. Well, except for the hobblebush. They are mostly planted around houses and such, and I don't see any in the deer woods. We have pinxter bushes and laurel and rhododendron, flame azaleas too.
The salamanders are the same kind that live in huge numbers around my camp. On a damp day, they are all over the place, making it treacherous to walk the logging skids, lest you step on one. Your pics are much nicer than any I have taken of them. There is another color phase that they have, an olive color with the same spots. Beautiful.
I read somewhere that of the animal biomass in the forest, that the vast majority of the total poundage is made up of salamanders. Check the pools, you'll catch them doing what lots of people wish they were doing in pools.
