Polishing fiberglass
« on: June 14, 2021, 10:13:56 PM »
I’ve got an old Ben Pearson Cougar. Sweet little recurve, fun to shoot. But the fiberglass is messy. Can I polish it? With what?

Going to need some pictures for sure.  I'm assuming it has clear coat on the glass?  If so, you can polish it same as you would a car.  3M makes some nice polishing compounds that work well on a foam pad.

Thanks for the reply. I thought of car polish and someone said Bon Ami has fine grit in it. Pics are difficult to see.

Yeah it looks like the clear coat is failing.  I see some disbonds and chips in there.  How good are you with paint?  I would suggest sanding down and recoating if you feel up to it.  If not, I would wet cut it with some polishing compound and then wax the snot out of it.  I hear good things about the ceramic waxes.

Highly recommend the 3M buffing and polishing compounds.  We use them to polish helmet scratches out of F-15 canopies (the United States Air Force  does not endorse 3M or any blah blah...)
