Marksman Quiver Review

First off this will be a work in progress as I get a lot of distraction as I get a lot of distractions during the day. So, please bear with me....

Being that I primarily hunt with Bow quivers I have acquired several brands over the years from Boa, Sellway, Great Northern, Eagles Flight, and a Big Jim's.  I got a new bow a couple of months ago and I thought I would try the Marksman Quiver from Australia. Nothing against any of them as I  put them to use and have commented on all here many times, now I'd like to comment on the Marksman.

These quivers are made to order and it took me a month to receive it, partly due to shipping from Australia.

As you can see it comes with two different sizes of arrow grippers.  Well that is deceiving as its really four sizes.  I'll get to that in a bit....

Most of our bow quivers are pretty simple and basic and they serve their purpose well, but the Marksman is very innovated. 

I bought the 5 arrow set back and I have found i can remove the brackets and use it as normal, or i can just remove the hood bracket for normal position and leave the bottom bracket on for a set back angle.

Now to the gripper deception.....

I hope y'all can see this in the pic as each gripper has two arrow positions.... if you load an arrow it might not seat as the arrow is smaller that the FIRST seat.  Just push a little further and slide it into the SECOND  seat.

So, you can shoot from wood arrows to skinny carbons and anything in between.

Hopefully y'all can see the two seats and the pinch in between....

Now anyone who's been around here for quite a while knows that I don't get nit picky with numbers.  But I am fixing to....

I have to admit I had a concern when I pulled the bag out of the package. I noticed this quiver was heavier than any bow quiver that I owned.  Once I saw the 2nd arrow gripper I said 'ok that's some weight off'.   The reason I was concerned is that this quiver is going on a 58 inch RD bow and not a heavy mass risered recurve.  I just didn’t want the designated bow to be 'over loaded'.  I was curious and went to get my scales.(which I use every 2 or 3 years and just lucky I found them)

Ok, so I weighed the hood, the gripper, and the two set back strap on brackets....

11.11 oz

Weighed the Great Northern one piece strap on....

8.38 oz.... 2.73 oz less.... BUT WAIT!

The setback brackets weigh .63 oz each so 11.11 - 1.26 = 9.85 oz ......

Much closer to the GN..... BUT WAIT!!!

This bow will be shooting 500 grain arrows instead of my normal 585 grainers. So, 5 x 85 = 495 grains..... converts to .97 oz.

9.85 - .97 = 8.88 oz ... just .5 oz heavier than the  GN........  I'm  good 

In all seriousness the non set back at 9.85 oz is trivial to 8.35 oz.

I will most likely go with the bottom set bracket only as I like that angle.....

I hope y'all paid close attention as you will most likely never see me do that again.

There will also be some weight saving when you trim the rubber and velcro on each bracket to suit your bow. As they are custom fit.
I’m sure you will get to that though.

It's on the bow now Mark. I'm fixing to take pictures.  Its all good and wouldn't have thought twice about it on any other of my bows.... its just this bow.  Non set back 9.85 oz vs 8.38 is no big deal... it was just when I picked up the package. Of course the brackets are gonna make it weigh more, and that extra heavy duty gripper added weight to the package for sure. It's not a concern for me, nor should it be for anyone else.  I just got curious and had to find out.... I don't get spells like that often.

Ok, before I forget, I swapped out grippers without removing the gripper frame.... convenient.  Now I only loaded the arrows up but did not seat the bheads...... I gotta get those slots just right.... and not while I'm taking pics.....

I seated the arrows today ... 4 Zwickey Delta 4 blades and 1 Zwickey No Mercy 4 blade...... plenty of room.....

And the bow is not over loaded.  I don't shoot with an open hand, this is just to check balance.  So, feeling good and looking good...

I really was pleased today as this is going to be a long time complement to this bow.

I will do a bit of shooting with this combo tomorrow and I'm certainly not expecting an issue.

That looks sweet Terry. Did you notice how if you move the gripper section up or down you can adjust the fletching clearance
 (stop them fanning to much or rubbing together)

You can also purchase a longer set back bracket separately if you need more adjustment for your setup.

I'll try moving the bracket down and see if i get them a little closer so the will fit in my fletch cover. If not I'll make one.....no biggie.

You can leave the strap down bracket in place on the bow and just angle the set back bracket down. This will lower the gripper section and move your fletches together to fit in your fletch cover.

Yes, that is what I was going to do.  I  can't move the strap down as this bow has very short fade outs.

Terry -- I have been experimenting with quiver placement. I found that I can move the quiver all the way to the end of the fade outs without any effect on the shot or on noise. Give it a try; it should give you a little more adjustability.

No Issues with the quiver while shooting at all. Even shot a 55/60 spruce just once...
