60” recurve. ebony and king wood
« on: July 26, 2021, 02:13:49 PM »
Been really busy for a long time but finally got a chance to finish a bow I started in 2019. It macasser ebony and king wood with foam cores and woven carbon backing. Bought the rattlesnake off of the st Jude’s auction a couple years ago. The bow is 60” 52#@28.

So how did you do the handle with the deer antler embossed on it and all the dimples in the grips?  That is pretty cool.

All that grip work is fantastic. And you shelf high spot is right on for a good pivot point.

Mostly dremel carved the horn with different bits. The dimples the same.

Thanks guys. The horn in the grip is supposed to be a copy of the right side of my best recurve kill. Got a bit to much finish in it a lost a bit of detail other then that I was pretty happy with it.

Yeah it took a little while to figure out where I’d left off on it :banghead:

That is impressive man.  Never would have thought the antlers were done with a dremel.  That looks sharp man.

Beautiful! That dimpling on the handle looks really cool
So why did you put carbon on and then cover it with the skins? Thats two cosmetic layers on top of each other?

The carbon isn’t just cosmetic it’s the backing instead of using glass. Since I’ve never done myself a snake skinI thought it look good on them. I also got numerous bows made with the carbon look limbs. Like this one

Wait? You can just use carbon as a substitute for fiber glass?
