In the spirit of the OP, here is another way to get your scarf if you have a table saw, but not a disc sander.
Using the miter gauge slot, I get a 13/16" lap on .200" lams

I always have a hell of a time using my disc sander for scarf joints.  I can’t seem to get it to sand a taper 90 degrees.
