New Recurve
« on: October 11, 2021, 09:35:12 PM »
So I'm pretty new to trad and have been wanting to get serious with it so I finally am. I picked up a Fleetwood Edge takedown from 3 rivers and have been shooting it for a couple of weeks. I ordered 30# limbs and 50# limbs. So far the bow seems to shoot well and I have been grouping pretty decent. Does anyone have any experience with this bow and is it pretty good for the money? I am going to see how it goes and I may try to get one a little better, just taking it slow.

Looks like a good bow for the money.Thier are good bows in that price point range.Starter bow does not mean you have an inferior bow.Its more about the archer overall than the bow and how much it cost.

The riser looks solid and it has some mass weight.
Which should make it pretty stable with a good shooting platform. Its a good choice in that regard IMO for someone just starting out shooting. The grip looks fine.Like medium/low style. The 62 inch length should be nice for overall length.

I think the arrow speed is about average for a recurve.Which is just fine and you can hunt with that bow.

Thiers a pretty good jump in poundage from your light limbs to your 50 pounders. The light limbs should be great for you to work on form and have better control of the bow and technique.I would work with those alot to get really comfortable with your draw, solid anchor, aim and release.

The 50 pounders should be worked into slowly depending on your bow strength. If you overbowed it can lead to problems. You have to judge that.

All and all you got a good bow from what I have seen in reviews and pictures of the Fleetwood.

You need arrows to match both limbs. They will require different spines.:)

Yeah get your form down 1st with the forty's then, 'work' out with the 50s by just pulling back every other day for a month, but do not strain yourself if you can't get to full draw with the 50s starting out.  Just draw it and slowly let it back down to brace.

You may or may not need two different spines, depends on the shaft.  I've shot from a 55# Super Shrew and Kwyk Styk to 60, 64# & 70# MOABS, to 78# Howard Hill with  the same shaft, with heads weighing between 150 and 225 grains.

Good advice Steelhead.

Steelhead pretty much covered it.
Most bows will out shoot the archer.  I know seasoned hunters who hunt with Samick Sage or Black Hunter bows because they shoot them well and like their performance.
Cost can determine some things that are performance meaningful but is often about aesthetic appreciation as well.
I can tell you from experience that nothing hurts quite like buying a big name bow for significant  money only to find out it's loud and you can't shoot it well.
Thank goodness (and Randy) for my Primal Tech bows but they don't kill em any more dead than the bow you have.
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.
