A few of my friends hated shooting longbows.

As opposed to what?
Mark
Some of my friends prefer to shoot glass recurves. They were impressed by how quiet and forgiving the tri lams are.
I shoot any type of trad bow without much preference, but my quietest bow and the one I’m most accurate with is an old bamboo backed and bellied 70” tri lam with a cherry core.

I see you're from Cambridge.  I used to be part of the Galt Sportsman Club in the mid eighties.
Bow hunted pushlinch and area.
We used to visit Th bow Shop in St Jacob's regularly.  Those were good times

Wade, I live about five minutes away from Galt Sportsman Club. Some days I can hear them shooting. I have shot 3D there. They have a really nice course and I’ve been thinking of joining.
You should check out the price of land in the area. It’ll make your jaw hit the ground. 😳
