Painting carbons

Hi guys
I'm wanting to build a set of carbon gold tip traditional shafts that match my cedars.
Has anyone done this?
I'm concerned about the paint sticking.
What did you use and how were the results?
I'd rather not go through the trouble if the paint won't adhere to shaft and the feather won't stick.

I shoot goldtip too, and I just cleaned them with acetone lightly (it took the label crest off) and then capped dipped white and crested all with the Bohning products. Looks great to me. No problems and I’ve been shooting them a LONG time.

I did forget to mention that it’s a little more of a pain with the open end of the Goldtip, there’s a bunch of ways to plug them , the taper on wood make the perfect drip point. I found with the little rubber plugs, if you really shove them in hard, it can have sort of a damming effect when you hang them to dry resulting in a little high spot around the end. Easily gotten around by just barely plugging it or with couple other methods, I think there’s a video on YT

I rigged up my cresting machine to spin the shaft while I sprayed the shaft. I covered the unpainted part of the shaft with an old aluminum shaft I taped to the carbon shaft inside the aluminum shaft. I wiped the shaft and logo off with Acetone. I used Rustolem 2X for outdoor use paint.

One of mine, over 10 years old if you question durability, probably been launched a few thousand times with a judo into the yard, next ones I’m probably going to dip the insert as well.

Clean with acetone it will remove all the writing. Pencil erasers will plug the hole and you can shove them up inside flush so they don’t cause drip issues. Regular Krylon or Rustoleum spray paint sticks really well to carbons and is durable and works better than dipping on carbon shafts imo

I like to wrap the shaft then crest over the wrap.
 Usually using testor paints.

I will share an experience I had trying to dip carbons. I believe they were GT’s. I wasn’t aware the manufacturer had put a coating on the shaft to help with target extraction. I couldn’t get the Bohning Laq. to stick on the shaft. At first I thought old paint so I dumped the tube and paint and bought new. Same results, I wanted to throw those shafts in the dump until I saw a post somewhere about scuffing up the shaft first to avoid what I was going through. That did the trick.
