Experience with New Widow Carbon Limbs
« on: December 14, 2021, 03:51:57 PM »
I haven't bought a Widow in several years. Does anyone have comparative experience with the new carbon limbs?

I may not have quite the platform that Aron Snyder has but I do own a 56” Black Widow PCH with two sets of Carbon Limbs, 58lbs and 53lbs @28” that perform very well… I enjoy the feel of them throughout the draw and shot. I do believe they have increased efficiency resulting it faster than normal speeds and definitely quicker recovery. They are very stable and quiet for me. I shoot 665 grain arrows out of the 58lb limbs, and 615 grain arrows out of the 53lb limbs so they’re not light arrows for full disclosure. However they swallow all that energy nicely. I have 3 Big Game animals with the 58lb set that would tell you their opinion if they could… :saywhat:

I love all of the Black Widows stuff and it’s top of the line, including these carbon limbs which still hold the traditional profile of the non carbon limbs… :campfire:

The dude builds nice tents, I have one, but interested in more feedback from guys with a few more years behind a traditional bow.

Kaz, how would you compare the sound to glass widow limbs?  With your heavy arrows I'd expect quiet, but do you hear a different tone?

Thinking about getting a set myself.

Ryan,
My standard setup for string and silencers is standard widow string, with one set spider silencers & one set Woolie Whispers. I started with string bare to stretch in string & work in brace height. Set nock point and then add my silencers which I believe were set at 10” & 14” from end of string / tip. One each of spider & woolie per end. Even with raw string I remember being a tight quick recovery, but when U added silencers it was a disappearing act. I can shoot my Black Widow KB next to the PCH with carbon tomorrow and get a better idea on frequency/pitch to give you my thoughts. I have lighter arrow setups too that I could use to get more resolution/amplification for discernment. Need a frequency or spectrum analyzer🤓

Might even be an IPhone App to capture it…

These are sweet limbs for sure and I have to believe they’re torsionally bomb proof. But then again, I’ve got a 1987 HS60, PTF, 2012 KB, and this 2021 PCH w/carbon that have never failed me yet… I’ll let you know soon what I can discern beyond sweet…  :campfire:

I have the carbon limbs on a 56” pch, but that is all I have so no comparison. The limbs are quiet and stable. I am shooting 525 gr arrows out of a 51# bow. I have had other bows with a carbon lamination that had a unique sound that I didn’t like. These don’t have that. I am happy with them.

Folks, it may be a day or two before I can report back my comparison. We’ve got a high winds storm and possible tornadoes in the area tonight into tomorrow. I had to batten down the hatches a little and helping family and friends prepare for this. The community is anxious about it due to a really bad Derecho a year and a half ago that left destruction in its path… the funny thing is, my shooting range is in my basement which is probably where I’ll be. I just may have more nervous company with me…  :campfire:

And tight you should be…. Carbon may not be for everyone, but for those that seek it, in a Widow, they shall find… :readit:
