Archery exercise I'd like to share
« on: January 10, 2022, 06:37:19 PM »
Hey, Tradgangers,

I wanted to share an archery exercise that helped me a lot. I left traditional archery for a while, and when I first went back to training, I could not shake the bad habit of using my higher trap to draw. The exercise on this video, at minute 15:00, helped me a lot:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfKUpZvTAFw&list=PLr4Jyxim-wBYaI1JEN3Fw0cbgG_tE2Dav&index=126&t=928s

I do 10-12 reps without weights just prior to shooting, and it helps me focusing on the right muscles. I was amazed how well it worked for me. I have also been doing it with weights once or twice per week (away from archery), to increase my strength, as I am interested in shooting heavier bows.

Hope it helps  :wavey:

Those are called Australian rows.

I did those quite a bit.All I needed was a weight bar or broomstick that was strong and set it up across something that was about the right hieght and rep out.You can get quite a few reps compared to chinups and its a safer exercise than bent over barbell rows or T-bar rows.Especially if you have lower back issues

It also cost nothing pretty much and is very effective.Good for the arms as well as the back. But you try and isolate the back muscles as much as possible.Good archery exorcise for sure

Great Tip .I also try to draw my bow and hold . Use those exercise rubber bands . Shoot your bow works the best but a good warm up first is the bands.

 Great post madmaxthc

I use the double grip handles on my exersise machine. Standing facing the machine with the pulley adjusted to chest height, pulling with both arms working the lats.

I end the workout with a single grip handle in a shooting stance and lighter weight.  Left arm, (bow arm) holding the vertical support bar, and draw the cable back to my anchor point.  Pretty much set the weight at my draw weight.

Always a good idea to work both sides.

I cheaper alternative is to use the TRX, added advantage is the ability to change the angles you work
