How does Savannah LB draw?
« on: February 27, 2022, 01:00:46 PM »
Hello,
How does the Martin/Howatt Savannah draw, compared to my Great Northern BushBow/flatbow, or my other recurves, or trad longbows.

Is the Savannah somewhere between a trad longbow and a recurve in its draw?
Is it smoother than a typical longbow?

Thanks, All!

PowWow is fine for this kind of question.
I'm not familiar with them but many here can help you.

The Savannah is a Fine looking and shooting Longbow. More of a flatbow to me , and pretty aggressive in design. Hybrid is the word ;)

I have owned 4 of the OLD SCHOOL Savannahs . 1st generation . Haven't shot any of the newer offerings .
They are very smooth on the draw.  IMHO  , all hybrids are a little more work to get dead quiet in comparison to a Mild R/D longbow like a Montana (my longbow of choice;), but ...it is a excellent shooting bow with very good speed .Did I mention it's a Looker ;)    Good mass weight -62" length is a good all around length and can handle 29" draw with ease. If you try one and find it's not for you , they are esy to resale ....

One of the main objectives with a bow is 1st ...how does it feel in hand. To you ....as You are the only one that can truely answer that.

Thanks!
Maybe I should look for a F/D curve for this bow?  I only know, from my very past experience with longbows, that they feel "stiff" and my recurves seemed to feel more smooth.... Dunno.

My current recurve is somewhat of a semi-static.

I'm wanting to go from 50# plus, down to 40#, plus, to enjoy shooting in my future years.

I prefer stability over speed.

I have never shot one, but once they come up for sale, they go quickly.  The Mountain Mesa looks pretty close.
Check out Tradlab for his reviews and tests.

It should be pretty similar to the Great Northern bush bow.  The latter is a bit milder r/d.  The substantial/severe r/d on the Savanah will put more initial tension on the string and thus it won't build poundage as fast as you come to full draw as will a typical ASL, which is another way of saying it won't stack as much as an ASL.  Should feel pretty similar to a recurve.

If you drop 10# in weight, anything is going to feel "smoother" just because you're drawing 10# less weight.

i have one, it seems to be a pretty nice bow, does not stack at all to me.
plenty fast enough. i dont shoot it much anymore, never really hunted with it.
shot a bunch of fish with it though. fairly high priced production bow.
i think you will like it.

I would note, in my findings after owning 4 differnt Original Savannah's . They are as mentioned a steady even gain of weight on the draw . Very well balanced at the deepest of the grip .

I bought one soon after they came on market. Liked everything about the bow, fast and quiet. Killed my first read buck with it. Was really smooth draw. Only reason I sold it was, I got big hands and no matter what I tried the fletch kept cutting my hand. If that wasn't happening I would still have it.

I regret that I got rid of mine, they are great bows and for me it was very forgiving and accurate. To compare it with my Dryad Bushwacker, the Savannah was milder on the draw but the Dryad is a higher performance bow. either way I would love to get my hands on another one.

Martin/Damon Howatt now offers a 58" amo Savannah.  It's a brand new design, not just a 62" Savannah with shortened limbs.  It weighs only 1.3 lbs.
