I'll have to adjust to the quiver I'm sure, but that is to be expected.

Well boys, UPS (brown truck) just backcharged me $18.00 with explanation of "charges were added later"

Deal was complete with customer, so I eat it I reckon ...

So the $15.00 surcharge may not be that bad , at least they told me up front... :banghead:

$15-$!8=does it really matter. They are both wrong....imho...  It's pretty sick what is going on and the repercussions will be vast.

What irritated me was the back charge . If I know up front it’s a whole different ballgame

I think if you can truly check you will find they raised more than just the $15 surcharge.  Looks to me like they raised at least 15% on the over all cost.

I sent a text to my USPS rep on Friday to see what the deal was... I had noticed a couple shipping charges I thought were excessive... but then, I rarely help with shipping so I wasn't sure.

This is what he told me: USPS teams with UPS and FedEx to ship some of their products.. and vice versa. UPS and FedEx have implemented these charges upon USPS

My gripe was with UPS , at least USPS tells me in advance they are gonna rip me.

UPS waited a few days til deal was done and customer had paid, then charged my card the extra.  I won't backcharge a customer so I get to eat that one...

Oh, it was weighed and measured correctly too.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

BINGO....Thank you Jim ;^)

I just told my wife  a few days ago after several of these "surcharges" and looking over UPS & FEDEX charges , and knowing USPS plays hand-off---hot-potatoe with our packages that it was pretty funny the difference was almost exactly that same $15 surcharge.  I knew that had something to do with it....

The point is we didn't lay down our money nor drop our valuable products off at UPS or Fedex for delivery did we? No...Yet USPS subs out what they don't want and makes us pay the difference .....Time to remove the US from usps?

Ralph,
You may very well be right, now.  But when I was a sectional center Postmaster, every morning UPS and FedX dropped around 90 parcels at my dock for the USPS to make the final delivery. (Over 15 years ago)
I do not know what arrangements were made or who benefited the most,  but it was at the national level. I doubt anyone was forced to participate.

Is anyone here really surprised that the rates went up significantly when our gas prices have gone up over a dollar a gallon? With no end in sight? Energy costs  have affected virtually everything in our country. You can decide for yourself what caused that.

Gary , I have also known  about  the same amount of time as you that they all play hot potatoe with our packages;) Most pay little attention to that stuff. I like to know who is doing a job I pay to have done. They were chosen for a reason.

Yep , gas sets it all in motion...but we are talking a $15 price hike across the board over 30". How many millions of packages a day fit that slot ?    To my knowledge going by what I could find on-line  they do like 65=68 (167 mil mail pieces)mil. packages a day .  They travel "most "the routes  6 days a week  delivering mail anyways . How one can justify a $15 hike ?

What  was costing everyone $15 on average days ago  now cost $30 . I'd like to see the real math on that one. Also with everything like it is (yea started with fuel day one) the USPS picks now to do this. Yep, drop the US ;)

Bad is this will be the end of many small & large buisnesses  alike with small profit margins . Fuel doubled working toward triple , all materials doing the same, and now this kind of a hike to deliver it......Not exactly a plan for success eh......but maybe that is the plan.... :readit:

Lots of archery products are over 30" or require over 30" box to ship . I hate to see where this goes in the near future.....That's enough of that eh ;^))

I just hope for "all of us" that things turn around sooner  rather than later  :campfire:

Yep Ralph
You ask a lot of good questions that I can’t answer. As you stated, I hope things turn around sooner rather than later.

the problem with USPS rates, once they go up that's how it stays, unless it goes up more.  I've not seen it fluctuate down.  Likewise I've never seen the price of stamps go down.

Yesterday I sent 3 bows, the total was just a shade under $114.   The receipt itemized the charges, and for everyone it shows the $15 sure charge.   Week before last, I sent out 5 bows, all over 30" and the total for Five was $86 and some change, so it's a real thing.

Ok Mike... not arguing....

Just seems that the way rates were before the surcharge $17 insured for 300 sounds cheap for a month ago.... but I don't know.

I know you ain't arguing.  I'm just really frustrated with the inflation.  Even the finish I use, last Dec I paid $7.99 a can, now I pay $11.99 for the same thing.  It didn't get any better.   I'll probably be forced to raise my prices just to meet inflation.  But if I do, everyone can bet that I'm going to figure out some way to improve, my bows to justify it.

Small or big boxes it's all going up that's for sure.
Took 6 days for a small pre-paid "priority" package to get to me last week.

I had another thought, this could have a negative effect on the St Judes auction..?

I just sent a take down recurve to MI. Twenty-eight inches long, but I got hit with the surcharge for being over two cubic feet. I just can’t send a bow without a lot of packaging around it. I used bubble wrap around each individual piece and two inch thick foam sheets around that.
I insured for $800 and total cost was $42.70
