Trad 3 D shoots

New to traditional. Thinking about going to a couple 3D shoots, I was wondering what’s the average distance of the targets? Thanks

TBOT.org
There was a big one this last weekend in Vanderpool and another big one next month.
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

Like DRT said, go to TBoT website to see lots of all trad shoots around the state. At most, the average will be a little shy of 20yds, with some a lot shorter and a few a lot longer. Most of the real long ones will be big targets like bison or elk.

The next “big” all trad shoot in the DFW area is the Texas State Longbow Championship. It is the weekend before Memorial Day. It is a really great shoot with a great format. You do have to shoot both Sat and Sun at that one.

Come on out. Trad 3D shoots are a blast!!!!

Thanks I’ll check TBoT out. I’m shooting a longbow now a friend made for me, but thinking of looking at a nice recurve.

TBOT for sure! I just started this year in 3D traditional and went to a couple of their local shoots around DFW and the people there are super awesome and helpful. Most distances vary from 15-25. There's usually one that's "out there". I'm hoping someone can chime in but the bear at the Hunt shoot I think was 27 yards. I know there was a lion at Irving and a buffalo at Cowtown that were a stretch but lifesize so large targets to hit. There's one in Bryan, Glen Rose and Collin County coming up I believe that would be somewhat close.

Being new to Trad I wouldn't worry about competing just stand where your comfortable to the targets and have fun. No one will care and you'll get plenty of practice and help, just ask. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Going to a 3D shoot doesn't mean you're competing.   I haven't a snow flake's chance in hell of winning but I go and experience the community and comradary (sp).  I also learn something about myself, my form, shooting scenarios.  I get to see how other shooters anchor and grip and . . .
Just getting to see what bows are out there, many you can shoot with a simple, polite request.
There is a lot to be gotten from being at these events besides winning or losing.

As was mentioned above get on the TBOT website for a shoot schedule.I would also recommend joining as well.Membership is very inexpensive and helps support a great organization with first rate folks.I shot at Vanderpool this past weekend which was the first real archery tournament I have competed in over 20 plus years.I only knew one guy there but virtually everybody was friendly and helpful. I was fortunate to be invited to shoot my rounds with some of the top shooters in the state and they were happy to show me the ropes and made a bunch of new friends to boot. I'm planning to attend at least a couple more of the upcoming tournaments.

First post here on Trad Gang. Like Gary and Bisch put it, TBOT is an absolute great group of guys and gals.
I’ve only been to 2 TBOT shoots but I feel like I’ve known everyone for some time now. Great shooting with you GCook, thanks for letting me try out your Primal Tech!
