Big Bow has to go. I have some questions you guys might be able to help with.

So a couple of years ago I did some shoulder damage and while its doesn't stop me from using my 60lb bow, It did put stress on my shoulder when I shot my 75 lb bow and i stopped shooting it with the result that now i need to go back into training if I wish to shoot it again, but to be honest I think Im better off selling it.
The trouble is the market for such bow is so limited here In New Zealand that I doubt I will find a buyer at anything other than junk prices.
Its an early model Border archery longbow- My question is, would it be worth much more if i tried to ship it too the states?
Kind of guess im looking for a rough value. Also if anyone has shipped a bow half way around the world. What it cost to do so and was it worth it?

I don’t have an answer to your question but, have you contacted Border to see if they could reduce the weight some, might be worth the cost of shipping if you can shoot it again.

I don't know what the weight of your bow is, but heavy bow value started dropping about 4 years ago.  I use get a fair price for a heavy bow, 60 to 78#s, and sell it same day or a week.  Now you can't hardly give on away and they can sit for months. 

Might want to check out the Form Clock thread on the Shooters Form Forum and see if you can get your form in order, i.e, probably aligned and bone on structure.  You shouldn't be putting stress on your shoulder when you shoot, and if your form promotes that, that lighter weight bow can do the same.

Cheers Terry! Thats good info.  To be honest, Im just thinking that given Im shooting the other bows so much easier, that Im not going to put the time in I need to prevent myself from being overbowed.
Jims idea of taking some of the draw weight out of it might give me more options.

The Hooker valley is an amazing spot, and when you are standing on the moraine wall, You get a surprise at how truely big the glacier is and how far across.
Ive just bought a farm down on the south island, so wont be too far away from hunting that country in a year or two again.

Thier is typically a limit on how much poundage can be shaved off.Not sure how much you could get of your Border.Most times about 5 pounds is what guys shoot for.But I have seen a member here take off more pounds than that on his personel bows.Perhaps on a heavier bow like yours more could be taken off?

Shipping can get expensive to the states or anywhere else.Especially with the distance you would need to ship from your home country.Shipping has gone up in price recently with some shipping providers.I recon you would have to weigh shipping costs and the price you would get for your bow to decide if its worth it

Maybe a trade for a lighter bow would be an option for you?

My experience is that used bows in excellent condition sell here for about half the retail price of a new bow.  There will obviously be exceptions to this in either direction.  One problem you may have, I had it in reverse, is that it is common here to let a buyer try the bow and refund his money within a short period of time if it wasn’t what he had in mind, provided that he returns it in the same condition it was when it was sold.  That policy might be difficult for an international transaction.

Terry gave you good advice. Bone shooting makes things way easier and typically more consistant. Anytime you are even higher than 50-52 imo the sale is gonna get tough

Actually if you have bone on bone you its not tuff if you are conditioned to the weight.  Its when you shoot heavy and don't have bone one bone is what's gonna cause ya trouble.

I agree Terry. Saying bone on bone in a forum could be tougher to explain at times than showing. Ensuring there’s proper back tension to help lock shot in so to speak is another important factor but back tension is another harder to describe unless someone really wants to learn it. Not hard but easier on newbies than teaching someone to relearn it.

Back tension gets you to proper alignment which gets you to bone on bone.

Gotta remember though, that thread was long time ago and I did some of the descriptions with stick figures.

I’d never seen it Terry but that’s good. Clay Hayes does something w tongue depressors. Bet that might be similar?
Anyhow lots of tricks to help. Hopefully the op looks into it
