Eastern Red Cedar Staves ( Virginia Juniper)
« on: May 03, 2022, 07:18:15 PM »
I always cut my Cedar staves for the year in the spring when the sap is up, that way the bark just slips right off. Today I started cutting and splitting and have 15 of the finest you will ever find anywhere. One is going out tomorrow, but the rest are up for grabs along with what I cut in the next few days.

To offer a deal on these if you buy one in May, I will throw in the sinew needed to back it free. Simply order on the website and I will throw in the sinew with it. Cedar needs to be shaped and bent into reflex when green and if you get one in May and sinew back it, the bow will be ready to hunt with by fall. The wood and sinew cure together!

This is an Arkansas Black Bear that I took with a bow that I made from the very same patch of cedar off of my place. They will make light and fast sinew backed bows!

If you don't know how to do one, call me and I will talk you through the roughing out process.

Thanks to the guys that have purchased one, they will ship today. There are plenty more if anyone needs one. Also check out the Black Bear that I took in Arkansas with a bow made from this wood off of my place that all these are being cut from.

Mike,
You've got my attention.  I've got a ton of red cedar here on my place in Missouri.  After I retire in several months I'd like to talk with you on how to make a couple cedar bows.

That is incredible looking wood. I absolutely love Red Cedar. I’ve never even built a self bow and it is tempting me to become proficient. Probably better learn the craft before I Implement the good stuff. Well done Mike :campfire:

No Kaz... start with the good stuff.... it will be more rewarding.  I have 3 red cedar bows and they are gorgeous.

Also, I was told over an over that my 1st selfbow would fail.... well, it didn't.  Still got in from my build in 2000. 'Maiden Voyage" was made from Osage, and my 2nd "Bear Necessities" as well.  So, I encourage you to 'learn the craft' on some good wood so when you succeed you will have a true gem.

Bear Necessities....

Maiden Voyage....
