I think this is going to work
« on: March 17, 2022, 04:38:40 PM »
Had a bad sholder strain last year and I was unable to pull my bow.
Have been thinking of getting a light weight bow to get my shoulder built back up.
Last evening I came up with an idea, put a loop of para chord on my bow string.
I'm going to do workouts with it, both sides and gradually shorten the loop until I can pull my bow all the way.
I'm sharing this because of others on here with similar problems.

To warm up before my chest, shoulders, and triceps routine, I take extra time on my shoulder girdle.  One exercise that I do is using very light weight dumbbells, I do a push-pull, mimicking drawing my bow.  I do 4 sets of 10 reps for each arm, alternating pushing and pulling.  I also do chest flyes with light weight dumbbells.  Basically, like trying to hug a tree, elbows bent, and a nice controlled stretch before "hugging".  Slow, steady, and controlled are vital to keeping your shoulders strong.

Ingenius idea!

I bet I could pull a 100 pound bow with one of your contraptions if it was about 15 inches long LOL :).

good luck with your rehab!

Been doing this for four days and no pain so far.
I think another week and I will shorten the loop about an inch.

Sounds like a good plan.
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

Shot twenty arrows earlier today and so far, no pain.
45# Javaman Helms Deep, could have shot more but I'm afraid to push it.  :archer:

Great idea  Slingshots are also good for shoulder rehab, or conditioning.

It's the next day and still no pain.
I'll wait another day and fling twenty more.

I'm glad your rehab work is paying off!

I actually had to install D-Loops on my recurve strings a few years ago because of very sore fingers so I could shoot a release aid. I shot like that for about a year until my fingers (draw hand) were ok again. I'm back to my tabs now.
