Who still shoots or hunts with a A or B mag Bear T/D
« on: May 05, 2022, 09:22:47 PM »
I have one of each but think about letting them go . Do many still hunt with them. I also have a left and right hand B wood risers that I really like. Just curious if there is still an interest in the mags ?

I have had both wood and mag risers in both A and B risers. The wood risers I didn't care for and even though I have hunted and shot turkeys and deer with both mags but, I've always shot the A mags best. I'm down to three of the A's now but, really need to sell two of them as there is no way I need three. Of course there is no way I need the other 30 some bows I have. I really need to get down to 4-5.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

When I feel the weather might turn crappy on a hunt, the Bear mag T/D is my go-to bow. Using a brush rest, I can shoot an arrow with vanes in the snow or rain.

Hey, Brother!!  :wavey:

I bought one of the new A-handles from Big Jim, when they first came out...
I LOVE IT!!!! (not as much as my wood handle yet) The more I shoot it, the more I like it!!

I plan on using it a lot this year after "the move"....  :archer2:
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

I am down to my B Mag riser. Sold my wood riser. The Mag riser just shoots better for me. I also use a brush rest. No, the riser an’it pretty but it gets the job done

Had the original Mag riser years ago in the B size with #1 limbs. It shot well.

Got onto the Bear T.Ds again a few years back and got a B and A size in wood.Thier nice!

Decided to buy the new aliminum Mag in A and its really nice. The adjustable tunability is a nice option to get good arrow flight. You got to use it though to get that really good arrow flight. Its a solid and functional riser with a kinda universal grip that should fit alot of guys grip wise without much fuss about it.

You should try some 40 pound on the B and 42# on the A riser #2 limbs Ron.Thier nice!:)

Started w a "A" Riser and #3 limbs a number of years ago. Tried a "B" w #1 limbs about 5 years ago. Accuracy improved and never looked back.
It's really simple. Just don't take those borderline shots. Tomorrow is another day.

This B handle is still going strong. Last year's Whitetail. This bow was a gift from Monty Browning and is my go to when I need the MOJO!

To those of you using new style limbs are you finding any fit problems?

Most of the new limbs(those with brass bushing) I’m finding difficulty getting them to fit so the latch closes.

Only have one set of those Kelly. They fit fine but are cracked from being installed badly. Bought them second hand, so screwed.

Am finding the locator pin and inside of brass bushing so tight that the latch really needs too much pressure put on it to close/latch. This last set I never could get one latch closed. Got rid of them Saturday so now am looking for some lightweight Graylings under 40#.

The quality control on new limbs is lacking. I’ve had them so loose they’d rattle and then too long couldn’t even get close to fitting the locator pin. When buying used one is out of luck if it doesn’t fit. Then out comes the file, sand paper or even thought about enlarging that brass bushing to make them fit better. Never had a problem with Grayling limbs.

I'm using my mag A and number 3 limbs this season for turkey hunting. I got that riser in the early 80's and it's the only one left all my others (one A and 2 B's) are wood. As far as limbs fitting, I've had to shave the heads on the alignment pin and that works.

Randy, what do you mean by “shave the heads on alignment pin” ?

Thanks

You could put the screw in a drill chuck, protect threads w small piece of emery or sandpaper. Then file lightly while spinning. Wouldn't take much. I've changed weight of field points doing similar. I've taken 300 gr screw in FPs, cut the tip down. Rough grind on a bench grinder. Then clamp in my drill press and file/sand to finish. You could maybe just taper the top part of the screw?

Thanks for the ideas guys but got rid of the problem set on Saturday. Funny thing was they fit fine on a 2016 A wood handle but didn't fit on any of my A Mags. Whereas the Grayling limbs I have fit on both. When I laid the problem limb on top of a Grayling could see the difference. The pin locator hole was not in the same place on each limb. The new 2021 limb was slightly longer in the butt section so that would put the locator pin hole slightly off. Would have had to sand the forks of butt end for a better fit, yet they fit fine in the wood handle. Don't know what was off so just sold the whole package, problem solved.

Kelly, glad you got the problem solved, I used a dremel tool and ground the alignment pin smaller in diameter until they fit.
