Damascus glue on broadhead?
« on: May 02, 2022, 04:56:22 PM »
Abowyer is out if stock and I don't think he's going to be making them anymore...

Anyone know who else might make such a head? I really need just one for a presentation arrow for show and tell along my journeys.

Terry,
No glue on Damascus heads.  However, I have numerous Doug Campbell Damascus trade point broadheads, could send you one if it would work.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Thanks Walt, let me see if I can find one.  Larry at Abowyer is going to let me know if a straggler shows up. (straggler: southern slang for a lost soul)

I have one on a presentation arrow that was made by Journeyman in 1995. It's stamped P&Y '97. Did Brian Oates own Journeyman back then?

a while back Tippet posted a forged broadhead he made with insert post for attachment.  I don't recall that it was damascus.  You could PM him and get his thoughts.

Terry I may have one and will check tonight, it's an Abowyer head but it may already be glued on to an adapter

Glad you found one. I used to make forged broadheads but I think I've given them all away. They take as much time to forge and balance as does a knife...tippit

Terry,
Buffing it would work but be careful not to catch an edge and have the buffer rip it out of your hands. If buffing leave the adaptor in and grab it with a pair of vise grips keeping your fingers whole. Real light sanding with 600 grit also. If you shine it up too much, it might have to be re-etched. When do you need it finished?

Jeff, I can probably get some jeweler's rouge or past, and buff it by hand or dremel tool with a cloth attachment.  I don't have a wheel.  Thanks.
