Ben Pearson Cougar Recurve
« on: February 15, 2007, 04:11:00 PM »
I just picker up a Ben Pearson Cougar Recurve from a friend of friend.
Seems the first friend Father-in-Law had anywhere from 2 to 15 of everyhting he owned. 8 anchors, 3 lawn mowers etc.
Including two Ben Peasron Cougar Recurves.
This one was never shot and has no string.
The Model No 62-17BO, 40# @ 28"
with the numbers 962 64".
It has the original canvas/cloth case with top zipper. The shelf and riser rugs have never had an arrow shoy out of them.
Can someone tell me what year this was made and what it is worth?
The riser is wood, backing is like a burgandy and front white/yellowish from age I guess.

The Ben Pearson Cougar is a good servicable recurve    that was produced in great numbers and sold by the thousands at very fair prices.  It does not have the collectability   :(  of Bear bows and can easily be found and purchased for $50 to $100 depending on condition and weight.

I cannot tell you a year,    but it seems most of these bows appeared in the 60's and 70's.

As a matter of fact, my first bow as a poor farm boy from Tennessee was a 62" Pearson Cougar in 45# my dad bought used for 10 bucks in 1965.

That was my first recurve. Great bows. Very reliable.
