I'm planning a different kind of Hunt for next Fall. I want to get a couple of guys together and go someplace just on a Bullsession and small game hunt.
What state has the highest density of rabbits?
Is it too late to be what I could have been?

John, one thing that I've noticed about rabbits is that they seem to be anywhere....but the largest CONCENTRATIONS seem to be in farm country, especially close to a farmer's "junk pile" or maybe a specific area close to the farmer's house/shop where stuff is piled up....I suspect that the presence of humans keeps some of the predators away.  With trad bows, you may have good luck getting permission closer to the house.  The shooting is also usually easier since you're not dealing with the brush typical of "classic" bunny habitat....but a rusty '49 Ford or junked farm implement can be tough on arrows!  :knothead:

Commitment is like bacon & eggs; the chicken is involved, but the pig is committed....

South Texas! By far the most rabbits I have ever seen in one area. This is just a rough guesstimate but I would say a conservative number would be around 75 a day.

John, we put on a "Bunny Stomp" in February...great hunt, great food, lots of raffles prizes and we donate the money to St. Judes.

Last year we 50 guys and it was a blast...do a search on "bunny stomp" and you should find the thread.

You guys are more than welcome to come up!

The highest population of rabbits on this planet or any other is at Shawn Leonard's bunny hunt JLMBH, lots of fun to be had there also.

but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt.

Texas bunny huntin' is not really huntin', it is shooting. Ya can walk to within ten ft. of a lot of them cottontails, jacks may be tougher. Our Bunny Hunt is in Feb. and we kill plenty but we hunt hard. 66 guys last year and we raised close tro $3500 for the St. Judes Kids! Last year over 250 shots taken and 17 dead bunnies. Do a search for the JLMBH Bunny Hunt and you will see for yourself! Shawn

christmas tree farms, fast difficult shooting, but you can get standing shots under trees where they think they are safe
Silence over speed.  Heavier arrows never hurt.

OK, I have heard of S Texas bunnies before, but are there any ranches that let you hunt them and camp on a day-fee basis?

When I lived in Kansas, I'd bird hunting up at Glen Elder WMA in N. Central Ks. I have never seen so many rabbits in all my life!!!  They were every where and in between pointing the birds, the dogs would point rabbits.  It was frustrating when the dogs pointed them, but I used it to scold them when they did and finally they left most of them alone.

I would go there if you were wanting to travel a long ways but not as far as Texas.  And cmaping would be free or you could stay in one of the small town motels.

Saw alot of big bucks up there as well.
