Woodchuck Power Taper Tool / Anyone use them/
« on: September 24, 2022, 09:44:03 PM »
I have a Woodchuck that hasn't been used for a while and is using up limited space. I tried to find out what they were currently selling for with no results. Anyone know anything about them and if they are still being sold?

FWIW, I was never really happy with the Wooddchuck.  I thought it gave inconsistent results.  Sometimes the alignment of the arrow points after tapering the shafts wasn’t all that great.  I brought this up here on TradGang some years ago, and don’t remember reading anything that helped me to solve my problem.  However, there were a number of responses from people who thought it did a good job, so maybe it was just me.

I still own and use my woodchuck bought a long time ago.  Once I got it set up properly it has done a beautiful job for me.

As David Mitchell stated once set up the are great. I am actually trying to purchase one or even 2 if the deal is correct so that I can set one for nocks and the other for a slightly lipped point taper. They usually go for around 100.00 bucks or more used.

I've had one for a lot of years. Mine gives good results and I'm really glad I bought it way back. I won't be giving it up.

Thanks David Mitchell, and everyone, for your help. I got great results from this one, but now don't use wood arrows or make them for others. As much as I hate to part with it, I just don't have the space to do all that I want.

David Mitchell, did you ever fish in Diamond Lake in Providence, Ky." The biggest bass that I have ever seen resided there.

I have one and love it.  It does help if you hold the arrow down firmly near the sanding disc as you turn it and slowly push it forward.

Don, I don't think I ever fished Diamond Lake--but at my age my memory is not real reliable. I wasn't much into fishing in those days. I'll be in Providence this weekend for my 61-year PHS class reunion.  Can't believe it's been that long. Several old classmates have passed on but I sure am looking forward to being back at the old stomping grounds for a bit.

Thanks for the help. There were at least 4 of you who expressed an interest in the Woodchuck, and I excepted one offer. I really didn't know that they had quit making them. They are a great asset to arrow building. i hate to get rid of it, but it's part of adjusting.
Again, thanks,
Don Ward, EFA

I built one like this Clay Hayes unit. Pretty cheap if you have, or can get a sander used.

If you already have a table saw then your set.  Just switch the blade for a ten inch sanding disk, and make your self a board with the  11 1/2 degree and 5 degree angle strips on it and your ready to go.  Might take all of half an hour to get set up.
