Delta layered targets sticks to shafts
« on: May 10, 2008, 04:15:00 PM »
I picked up a Delta layered target, it has a hard plastic top and bottom sandwitching the foam layers, which I think would last longer than the plastic wrap. However my poly coated wood shafts get foam stuck to them when I remove them, like the foam melted to them.
Anybody have a similar experience and were you able to remedy the problem?

you can spray the tips with silicone spray to prevent sticking. Don't spray too far up the shaft or you will not be able to hold the shaft when removing. Could excess hot-melt glue be causing the trouble?

I'll try the silicone. I clean the excess glue off when its still warm.
 Thanks

That's a common problem with wood arrows. The finish gets hot when it goes in from the friction. It works like the coating on nails. I have broken arrows before trying to get them out of targets. I now use aluminums when shooting foam or cardboard or any of the other mediums commonly used in targets. But I mostly stump shoot. I use woodys for that and hunting. Gary

Polly sticks to most targets. No matter what I use to finish shafts I give them a couple final coats of gasket lacquer to prevent the target burn you are experiencing.

Gasket lacquer is a lousy sealer by it's self but works much better over poly, tru-oil or epoxy acetone.

Pledge furniture wax works great, but you have to redo every so often. I spray on a rag or paper towel and do the bottem 10" or so.
