I’ve only ever shot aluminums, and I switched this week to Carbons. Shooting a 3D event tomorrow in the snow, should be fun!
I spent a few days bare shaft tuning then stump shooting along with some targets and arrows are flying well, all dialed in.
For 20 years I’ve always taken the time to bare shaft plane because it produces a better flying arrow, which offers up more “forgiveness” if my form is off.
For example, prior to bare shafting the fletched arrows were flying true, hitting where I was looking at 20-25 yards. However, once I cut off the fletching the bare shafts impacted a full foot left of the fletched arrows at 25 yards (showing stiff) and about 8” low, consistently. Once I added point weight and lowered my nock point, bare shaft and fletch landed together. This absolutely transfers into better tuned arrow.
Interesting that my point on went from 25 yards to 30, with a flatter trajectory with the carbons.
