Maddog Mike and "The End of the Trail"
« on: March 13, 2023, 08:16:30 PM »
Well, if you don't know by now, Maddog Archery has come to an end. Over the years Mike Mecredy has done some fantastic work in building bows. Also, putting bows in the hands of a great number of youth to get them started in archery. I've had the pleasure of owning 4 of his bows now. My first was a bamboo backed Osage bow and a great little shooter. Then I had the pleasure of having the first recurve when he offered them. Then two of his Prairie Predator longbows. The 4th one showing up today. This will be my final custom bow built and will not be sold off. It is the end of the trail for custom bows for me and when my life trail has ended, it will go to my son. I had it named that because it is also the end of the trail for Mike and bow building. I'm glad to have gotten my order in just in time to get it! :archer:

Mike, if you see this, my best to you and yours and may your new adventures bring you as much joy as you have brought to the traditional archery community! Stay safe, shoot straight and may your arrows sail in the wind my friend! :campfire:

My Prairie Predator in Bacote/Maple with brown glass. Pics will say the rest:

Someone asked me what that first recurve looked like so, here's some pics of it. Sometimes wish I had not gotten rid of it but, couldn't shoot it now anyway. Hopefully it is in the hands of someone who appreciates it! :)

My first and only traditional bow was from Mike.  He mentioned he was closing shop.  I'm happy to have received my bow before he closed up shop.  Happy trails Mike.

Only longbow I have right now is a Maddog Prairie Predator.   My son shoots it, I shoot it.  Didn't know Mike was closing up.   I suppose life and time and change is ever moving.  I won't be able to recommend Mike's bows anymore as a new purchase.   Best to Mike as he moves on!

Many years ago Mike repaired a Bear bow for me when Bear declined to do so.  He did a great job - and as recently as last November I killed a deer with that bow! Thanks Mike!

Sad news. Thanks Mike for all your efforts putting Pups in the hand of so many younguns. Would be interesting to know how many you built.
