I wanted to say thank you to all the members who have shared information and knowledge on this website, it has helped me immensely.
I grew up shooting and hunting with traditional archery equipment and have had some success harvesting deer and elk with a recurve.
The last time I hunted with a recurve was in 2017 and was blessed to harvest a cow elk that year. Since that time, I have not really hunted with a bow. I bought a fixer-upper house in August of 2018, moved in, and began renovating slowly after work. Because of this, I did not take the time to pick up the bow and prepare for the archery season.
This year I have dedicated myself to hunting with a bow again and somehow got the itch to try a long bow. I decided I wanted a more traditional D-shaped longbow. I purchased a Lil Creep from GN and after shooting it and I decided I might want a longer longbow. So I read through various pages on Trad Gang on the advantages of shooting longer bows and saw some great reviews on several bowyers. There are so many, but it seems several names are mentioned a little more than others?? So I contacted Steve Turay of Northern Mist and told him what I’m shooting, my draw length, draw weight, etc., and he said he just finished a bow for a guy who decided not to go through with the purchase and it was for sale. It’s a 66” Superior with black glass, locator grip, bamboo limbs, and 50lbs at my draw length of 28”. It seems the stars aligned and I won’t have to wait to get one of his bows. I purchased it on the spot and have been shooting for about a month now. Wow!! I love a longer bow!! I think this is the most pleasant shooting experience I’ve ever had, I absolutely love this bow.
So I’ve been working on getting the bow tuned with various arrows, getting a nock set tied on, making my own bow silencers with wool yarn, and getting broad heads purchased and ready for hunting season.
I have found so much valuable information on this site and I am grateful to be a part of this group, thank you! I hope to contribute someday as well, but I feel like such a rookie among you experienced veteran bow hunters.
