Bug Suits??
« on: May 12, 2008, 09:39:00 PM »
I am going on a couple warm weather hunts in August and September. Both places have certain blood suckers that I would like to deny access.

Any of you use any of the bug suits? If so, pro's and con's? brands?

I will be hunting in areas with black flies and mosquitos.

Thanks

yup screw that bug suit and get a therma cell.  I used mine our black bear hunt and didnt need a bug suit my dad however wore his bug suit and was constantly annoyed by the buzzing of insects next to the netting around his head.  I never had to deal with that.  Get a therma cell they are worth their weight in gold. (well maybe not in todays market, but you know what I mean)

I'm a great fan of thermacell. I still take a headnet, gloves and bugproof clothes ie. longsleeve shirt and pants and ducttape just incase.

I put a headnet on even though I swear by the Thermacell. I have run out of butane right at the time a bear is most likely to show and I have not wanted to make all that movement just then.

Thermacells are great and they do work. However, if the wind is blowing then the repellent it gives out gets blown away. So, take a bug suit as well.

What Snakeeater said.  With the bugtamer jacket, the issue is that the material on your bow arm bunches up and can get in the way of a shot.  Be sure to take and wear a longer armguard.

I have something called "The Original Bug Shirt."  Works very well.  Very light.

I've used a Bug Tamer too, and it's worth it's weight in gold. One of the places I hunt spring turkeys in basically a bog. Come mid-May, the bugs are horrendous.
