Arizona Tradganger Questions
« on: February 16, 2007, 07:35:00 AM »
My wife and I are leaving tomorrow (towing a travel trailer) to meet some friends who are sunbirding around Parker Dam, and do some exploring.  Will bring the longbow and selection of arrows--- I expect to have most mornings free while the night owls sleep in.    :coffee:
Does anyone have any suggestions of places to ramble and shoot?----might be able to afford a non-resident license if any game is in season.

Thanks---Bruce

Bruce..... Not sure where to go in that part of the state but love driving through there..... The HAM ( Handgun/Archery/Muzzleloader) season is going on right now for Javelina not sure if there would be any leftover tags still available.... But you could hunt rabbits, coyote bobcat, ect with your non res tag if you get one.... Have a safe trip.... Terry

Yolla,

Parker Dam where is it? Are you referring to Parker Canyon Lake here in south AZ. If so IM me and I may be able to help a little. Cougar also might be something you could do. The ranchers in the part would be very thankful for that.

Thank you, sirs:   Kelly----No not Parker Canyon Lake---saw it on the large scale map---looks interesting, but my friend is parked some where near a Parker Dam just below Lake Havasau.
Looking forward to exploring---miss my sagebrush   :campfire:

Quick trip report----
The area of Arizona to which my friends took us, was a narrow strip on the westen edge.  Circumstances and time demands from the other party members conspired, and neither the Whisper nor a single flyrod came out of their cases.   Did get a  couple of small hikes in the Kofa Wildlife Preserve---an area encompassing several small, but spectacular mountain ranges---reportedly the home of a healthy herd of desert Bighorn sheep. Hunting is allowed there, but I could not squeeze out the time to investigate buying tags, etc.
Beautiful country---friendly, helpful local folks.  Had several beautiful evenings watching the sunset on wide open land.   :campfire:
My introduction to the "sunbird" culture was an eye-opener:  not sure how the natives can handle the influx of such massive numbers of humanity and maintain their composure.
Thank you, Terry and Kelly, for your assistance.
