Shooting Glove??
« on: May 14, 2008, 08:00:00 AM »
I need a new shooting glove. The old one's had it. Haven't bought one in a while and I'm not sure what"s out there.

What do all of you glove shooters recommend?

Come to the Baltimore Bowmen Trad Classic this weekend and look them all over.

I like the Big Shot myself, but Killie has the right idea. If you have an opportunity to go somewhere where you can try on and test a bunch, do it.

The best advice I can give is go to a shoot with vendors so you can try them on and get a good fit.  Even the same brand and size can have a very different fit.

The best I have used is the ABS Super Glove.  Currently trying to get accustomed to a tab.  Tried to use a Big Shot Slick Shot (American Leathers), but made the mistake of ordering it rather than trying them on first.  Looked like a great glove, but the fit was way off even after returning it and getting a second one.

I'm a big fan of the american leathers big shot gloves. 1)as others have said, be sure to try them on till you find the right one, very hard to get a good fit without putting your hand in one. 2)whatever you find that you like, buy 2 and alternate shooting them both: you'll have a spare already broken in when you need it.

I shoot the Berlin Deerskin Gloves (damascus style glove).  I tried the American Leathers Big Shot Gloves and didnt care for it.  I could not "feel" the string the way I like to.

Like others have already mentionned you should try it because sizing is not consistant from one brand to the next.

I have other problems as  my hand is long and big but my fingers are relatively slender and shoot left handed.

I buy 2 different size gloves ( I like one Martin model) and get my wife to make me a true custom glove with the parts.

I noticed years ago that the glove fingers on a right handed glove are set up for a right hand order of fingers and also, because the strap velcro opening is facing frontwards, it has a tendency to unfasten when you walk through brush.
May your next adventure lighten your heart, test your spirit, and nourish your soul.

i too shoot a Damascus style, like Tim said above, i have also shot the "big shot" and didn't like it because i couldn't "feel" the string the way i like to. They are a great glove but before you spend the money you should try them out if at all possible.it is all personal preference

Just bought a Bear Paw from Black Widow and so far it is a nice glove.
