I set up a jig years ago that i milled tapers through the end of my edge sander using 1.75" wide sleds.
But..... The continuous feed rate is critical to get accurate lams.
I highly recommend getting a drum sander if you plan on getting serious about milling your own lams. Kirk
A few passes with out going deeper is how I use mine.
Could be the rubber drum KIRK, MAYBE, mine is aluminum.

This is mine, It takes a little practice time to figure it out.
I have milled boo flooring down to .018, I push and pull at the same time.
I have a Grizzly baby drum sander too, but I like the hog for accuracy
