Kitties and Yotes
«
on:
January 14, 2024, 06:36:21 PM »
Wrapped up the deer season yesterday with 82 hunts….Was a fine season…
Am still itching to be out. Have two setups ready to give kitties and yotes a go. This will be my 1st endeavor to specifically pursuing these critters. Both setups have yielded numerous recent pics of the two critters during afternoon shooting light. I have borrowed an electronic caller w/decoy to get started.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yotes will almost always circle to get the wind . Not always but mostly
Cats are slow to get there usually, not always but mostly
Rabbit sounds work well for both right now but a challenge howl can make yotes want to come check you out probably next month
I’m not an expert but like messin with them
Good luck !!

Cats also seem to suddenly appear and be just sitting watching.
A decoy may be helpful but I like to sneak in and not be seen putting it out. YMMV
Good luck!!

One other thing, coyotes are quick learners, so if I want to thin them out I don't take my bow....

Shooting yotes with a bow can be like shooting smoke, but it can be done. There are more effective means though.

Like everyone on here as already said, coyotes and bobcats are both very smart and very cautious. I do my best to try and make setups where there's some sort of obstacle that might prevent them from completely circling downwind, but it's usually very difficult to do.
When I'm hunting coyotes, I'm there to remove them, not educate them, so my favorite broadhead to use is about .243 inches in diameter and weighs around 100 grains.
Good luck!

where I predator hunt if Magpies and Crows or Ravens start coming 95% of the time Coyotes are right behind them. So be ready.

I'd think calling coyotes and shooting them with a bow , a ghillie and a decoy might be pretty helpful....
