Snaky Osage 35# at 28”
« on: March 04, 2024, 09:12:26 PM »
Here’s a snaky Osage I just finished up yesterday. I got the stave from Andy Barnett last year at Mojam. This was the smaller of the two staves I got. It had quite a few drying cracks that were easily remedied with a healthy dose of super glue. It turned out a little lighter than I intended but I think I got all the weight the stave would allow as some spots barely got touched by the scraper once I cleaned up the limbs. It was just Slowely matching the tiller to those spots until I hit full draw. The skins are bullsnake and the tips are some peachy color wood and Purple Heart. The handle wrap is a tooled basket weave laced with calf lace. It’s not a speed demon but is not a bad shooter at all. Pretty mellow in the hand and not much sound to speak of. It’s definitely a hard one to send off to its new home soon.

Kyle, Do you know how many bows you have made?

Always nice

I saw kyle at MoJam the first time I went, a day later I went to eat Pizza and he was setting there so I joined him.
The next year we started going to eat Pizza every year. I have missed going the last 4/5 years. :knothead:

You know, I have no idea. But I would say 8-10 per year since I started making them almost 15 years ago.

I havnt had my pizza buddy these last few years. Think you’ll make Mojam this summer? I think it’s the 25th year this summer. Hopefully there are some more of the original crew there this year along with the regulars.

What’s a beauty my friend. Love that grip!

Thanks! I’ve gotta play around with it some since I skived the ends a bit thin. I  tore out the holes at the top and bottom of the grip where the leather got thin,  easy enough fix. But I really like how tapering the leather at the top and bottom of the grip looks and feels. I may try anangled basket weave on the next one and see how it turns out. I really can’t complain, just little tweaks for the next one.

It's a 9 hour drive for me but I have been thinking about it :dunno:
I go to the Tn. Classic every year, 4 hour drive.
