I have a Martin Hunter 45# I have had a problem with a slapping noise at the shot, wear on the shelf was on the outside edge, I tried every arrow combo I could think of and ended up with Axis 500 cut to 29.5 with 100 grain brass inserts, 125 points, still couldn't get rid of the slapping noise.
I just on a fluk changed the factory string to a Three Rivers fast flight plus.
Hers my quetion, the noise went away, my arrows are flying like darts and it shoots 400 with the same set up good also.
Why did the noise stop and why have I never seen this suggested on any site.

Used to have a 45# Martin Hunter that did the exact same thing--I got a custom TS1+ custom string made for it and bingo, same result--everything flew great and the bow didn't "slap" anymore!
Could it be that the Martin factory strings are not that great?

Shucks, I have three Martin Hunters, and I just thought htey were noisy. I'll try one of the new strings! Thanks!

Is there any chance that your nocks were too tight on the old string?

Mark, that's a real good point.
That Hunter was the first bow I got when I was getting in to "Trad" shooting (I didn't know squat). It came with a fairly thick string--maybe because Martin probably used the same string on all their bows, whether a 35# or a 75# draw weight.
When I ordered my custom string, the stringmaker asked me the poundage of the bow and what kind of arrows I was shooting (GT 35/55's--a little to stiff). When I got the new string, the nocks were a lot less tight.
The new string also had beaver fur silencers.
Bottom line--it was the best $20 I could have spent to make a great bow quiet.

Nock fit could definitely be a part of the issue.  Arrow slap is generally a sign of being overspined.  Going to the FF type string would require a stiffer arrow so you may have solved your spine issue in the process, too.

Did you check your brace height when you put on the new string?

I went with a full 16 stand b50 string and played with the brace height to get the bow so it makes zero noise now. The brace height was on the higher side. I had to put a full 12 twist in the string.

The knock point on the string may have a little to low.
