I like D97 but I shot FF for years my Bowyer turned me on to D97 . I build my own strings.

“Fast flight” is a specific material but is now used as a catch-all description for all modern string materials (like kleen-ex).
D97 is good.
8125 is the same material as D97, but a smaller diameter. It is good and probably the most common material used in modern longbow and recurve strings.
652 is said to be almost identical to the original Fast Flight (different manufacturer.) It is preferred by some (including many top Korean Olympic archers) for it’s softer feel.
You could pick any of the above and be fine. There are other even lower-stretch materials available now but most limb manufacturers will say that D97/8125/652 are the safer bets. Some will say to not deviate from that list as others are too harsh on limbs.

Look up Shatterproof Archery. They're out of Colorado Springs. They seem very down to Earth, and can make whatever you want. The website is pretty informative.

There are a number of folks that make good strings. I use Stilldub, u can find his strings on the big auction site. He'll d b55, D97, or X-99. Great guy, quality strings, quick turnaround.

thank you everyone, I have a great SPD string I need to remove from a Preditor bow only because I want to go back to my original spine arrows Heritage 150's. the SPD made me jump up to the 250's which I only have a dozen so a spring time goal is to get that bow back and tuned up for the fall.

A string that causes you to go to heavier spine mean it is giving better performance. To me, that is a good thing

Curious as to why you don't go back to your bow manufacturer for a string? If I wanted a regular string, that is who I would turn to.

I use D97. Went through some of the faster, skinnier threads and just didn’t care for them. B55 is just too stretchy for too long and D97 settles quickly and is as as quiet as it gets with proper tuning and Brace setting attention.
As far as speed goes, what’s a few FPS between strings? I hear most experienced guys say to stop fretting speed on a trad bow, fret your form and accuracy and the string will do its job.

Mike Harbison (Bayou Traditional Archery)
If I remember correctly he makes strings for Blacktail Bows. But as stated above...a lot of choices by excellent string crafters.
