Tuning suggestions

Looking for set up suggestions!

Shooting a 56” Kempf Kwik Stick, 50@28”. I’ve shot split for years, but tried shooting 3 under yesterday. Seems promising. What I need are suggestions for a good set up, including type of rest and any tuning tips. I’ve always shot off of Velcro on the shelf and my feathers wear the Velcro bad regardless of feather rotation. Elevated rest? Feather rest? What say you?

The front of the feathers may need to be smoother and tapered to the shaft. I use thick or insulated electrical tape on the shelf and window, a bit unconventional, but I like it smooth.  Goat skin is very tough and would work. I am not using an elevated rest, but have used the old style Hoyt stick on with a plastic finger.  Check Eb*y.

Industrial Velcro from Lowes or Home Depot is the best shelf material that I have used. As for going from split to three under you may want to raise your nocking point to 3/4" or more if you draw past 30". That is just a starting point and can lower slightly till you are happy with arrow flight and clearence. Using an elevated rest is not needed to get great arrow flight with three under.

Thanks guys. I have an elk hunt this September and want to be ready. I've been concerned for a long time about the shelf wear I'm experiencing. That's one reason I was considering an elevated rest. My draw is only 28 inches.

What is your nock point height and do you use 2, one above one below?

Katman: I use two tie on nocks. 3/8” to top of lower nock. SBD bowstring (new one on the way). I’m shooting so much better with three under. Haven’t shot bareshaft yet. Hope to today.

Wow. I’m shrinking with age. My draw is now only 26 3/4”. Shooting dark timber carbons 29”. 100 grain brass insert = 360 grains. Bare shaft with 175 grain field point = 535 grains total weight. Getting nock left (pretty severe). A little nock high as I increased my shelf pad thickness. Nock is set 1/2” high.

Assuming your getting a severe tail left, (single arrow flight visual bareshaft method) you need stiffer arrows or you need to take some head weight off.  Nock high can either represent a nock nocked too low (bouncing off the shelf) or too high. With a three finger under shooting style, nocking points can often be extremely high. My own three under nock point height (with a 27" draw) is about 7/8's measured from the bottom of the nock. It shoots a bareshaft just like a fletched arrow.

The advice given earlier about two nocking points, one being over the arrow nock and the other under the arrow nock is good. I simply can't get good arrow flight without the two nocks. For me I use thread for the nocks and both nocks need to be snug against the arrow nock.

Thank you. I’m slowly getting there. Yep, using two tie-on nocks. Going to cut my 29” carbons down in order to get a heavier arrow/point.
