Elk thread?
« on: August 20, 2024, 07:03:34 PM »
Sitting here with my foot in a boot, unable to walk is driving me crazy!

I remember a few years ago someone had posted an awesome story about their elk hunt, was hoping those of you that have saved threads could link em.

I’ve re-read about every hunting book I own & am now scouring the internet while I wait for my darn ankle to heal

Do you remember any word in the title?  And how long ago it was posted or who?

I’ve been scouring through the search function. It was a real long thread, gentlemen packed in a good long ways & was there for a couple weeks I believe. He did a great write up of everything he packed, how he setup camp etc. I’ll find it, awesome read!

OK, try to think of any 'different' or 'special' word that was used in the body of the thread.  A word not used often, like unique, steep, magnificent, giant, hoof, squeak, etc...

If it's the same one I'm thinking of, he was from Oklahoma or Texas??? and was hunting Colorado solo packing in and hiking/hunting as he was going. Was thinking his first name was Matt, but just did a quick search of members and nothing looked familiar.

Too many bows to list, and so many more I want to try!  Keep the wind in your face, and your broadheads sharp.

Yeah that could be? I know the gentlemen had a bit of a drive to get to his hunting spot

So after a busy weekend of getting a daughter married, I have some unwind time for me today.  :goldtooth:  Jacob, I think the thread you might be looking for is 26 days in Colorado from SAM E STEPHENS.  The name came back to me this weekend for whatever reason with everything else I had going on  so I did a search today and found that one. I remember it was a great read with a lot of pics.  I'm going to go back and reread it again, as hopefully my brother and I can draw elk tags for Colorado again next year.

Found that one, wasn't the one I was looking for, the post I am looking for was REALLY long & picture heavy.

I'll keep looking

Jacob,
There was a thread by John Scifres from Indiana, who hosted an IN Hoosier State Forest hunt, who did a Colorado Elk backpack trip and took a lot of pics of his trip and backpack list, etc.  He actually made some selfbows for Katnis, if i'm not mistaken.

There was another older thread from a Bill Watts II/Jr. ? that may have also been the one you were looking for?

Got me curious and searching. Years ago I enjoyed and followed a post by Gil Verwey called " Come along on a DIY Elk hunt with me this year in Colorado". Could this be the one? July 2012.
