Foam core material
« on: August 12, 2024, 11:05:32 PM »
A few questions. Do you grind it or buy already to your specs.
Who carries it
How does it compare to bamboo stack wise.
Is it durable.
High on Archery.

It’s been way too long since I played with foam cores to give you any comparison with Aboo, but the stack heights, or limb thickness isn’t that much different if I remember right….

I bought mine already milled into strips from Dale Stahl, and then ran them through my drum sander using 80 grit rather than my heavy 40 or 36 grit. The stuff is seriously fragile to handle getting it laid up.

I found that the stuff was really not worth the hassle or expense to just eliminate a little  limb mass weight, and performance increase was negligible. It also has a weird sound to it…. Especially using carbon backing. The tone was a higher pitch that even string silencers didn’t remove completely. After building a half dozen or so with the stuff, I quit messing with it.

Good luck going down that rabbit hole….   Kirk
