Official Misses and boondoggle thread
« on: October 14, 2024, 11:54:12 PM »
Well I think we need an area for the not so proud moments.
I'll start. Last week I went out on public land and after much acorn scouting found a area I deemed hot..went back and got my stand, and went up the tree with high hopes..couple hours later had a nice Lil buck cruise in. He came in from my left, and as I turned to follow his progress I found my harness getting tighter and tighter until I couldn't turn any more or draw because the tether was now around the back of my right upper arm, effectively locking me up for a draw. Then he paused politely and faced away for about 15sec..to allow me a to take in the fact that Houdini couldn't have managed the 8yd shot.. Then another day at a different spot, I started to get ready to get down from the tree, put my arrows in the quiver and then set my bow crosswise on the seat with my pack on top and started to tie my line on the bow and pack..from 10yds behind me comes this crashing noise..and the only view I could manage was bent over looking under my armpit..and there was a very impressive buck beating up the tree I'd sprayed with doe pee..and I was just about 12 or so moves from being able to take the shot when he paused and looked away at a doe entering the woods..Shall I go on? At 5 this evening I was out again near the same spot..and had a doe followed by a very nice 8point come in behind my tree..pause and begin eating acorns. I made a risky move turning 180° and pulled the move off without detection, looked down and picked a spot..the arrow flew neatly into a branch, and careened into the dirt under the buck..he hopped about 5 yds away and merely looked around..as I fumbled for another arrow..shaking like a leaf..I finally nocked it on the string and started scanning for a clear shot..Then a sound under my tree turned out to be a even larger buck..10 at least points...and I missed him too.
I'm taking tomorrow off. UnBeLieVabLe!!!

I hope you changed your mind and went hunting today. Sounds like you are close to closing the deal. Just need to pull it all together.

I agree with Jed above, keep after them.

It'll be a great feeling when it all comes together. Good luck!

Absolutely don't give up!!! There's something happening where you're at, now's the time to keep after them.

Definitely keep at it.

I missed 6 last year and yet had the most fun I’ve had in many years. Each was memorable and comical in their own way.

Keep your head up!

This past weekend...  Tried to shoot a doe through one of those wire fences with the holes like 6 inches X 6 inches square.  Not the best idea, especially since I wasn't actively trying to shoot through the middle of an opening and had just picked a spot...   Well, lets just say I am very lucky the arrow deflected over the animal! :knothead:

I did!! After a bit of shooting off the shed and getting my brain reattached to my eyeball I went out this evening..no shots but had 3 deer come up my downwind and alert..nice 8pt just staring me down quartered to me ..no good shot presented..windy and colder here in south east lower Mi..not much moving in the woods tonight other than a almost all white skunk.

Last year I did some new set ups in some thick areas and cleared out a shooting lanes on the major trails and of course all the bucks used different trails and two times I hit my limb on the tree I was in even though I checked if i had clearance first and another two times I hit a twig I never saw until my arrow hit it and went under each buck. i was lucky enough to shoot two does though. This year I have the trails and shooting lanes all set.
