Black Widow bows
« on: November 09, 2024, 07:02:38 AM »
I will admit that I haven't been much of a fan of Black Widows bows. I have owned a PSR, an MA recurve a PMA recurve, 2 PTF's and I just for whatever reason didn't really enjoy shooting them. I felt they were either too mass heavy in the riser, shot loud and performance wasn't anything extra special. At best I would say the PSR was my favorite of the bunch. Fast forward I get my hands on a PLX longbow and I have completely changed my mind. This has to be beyond a shadow of doubt the best shooting longbow I have ever shot in my over 40 years of shooting a trad bow. A good looking bow, and yes I'll post pictures soon, I want to take it hunting first this weekend. I guess the old saying that one size does not fit all is very true. I'm just happy I finally got one that works with me because I have always been a fan of theirs and wanted it to work real bad. Now I have repented and happy to be a Widow fan.

The seemingly personal perfect fit is the objective for Black Widow. Only the individual can ascertain that. The team at Black Widow continually strives to move beyond.

They aren’t the quietest I own.  They aren’t the lightest I own.  But they are the most accurate, smoothest bows I own.

I have only owned one BW. I have to admit that I’m confused by comments that they’re noisy. Mine was an MAIII and it was the most quiet recurve I’ve ever owned. It was just this side of silent. I’ve used BW to refinish one of my Dale Dyes and their service was outstanding. Pretty hard to find a better bowyer company than BW.

They are a great bunch of people and they have a dizzying amount of options. I was looking at their buy now bows but by the time I decided on a particular bow- it was gone.

Dang Frassettor,
You and Beemann are impossible to keep up with. Maybe I better keep my PSA as a backup to my new one.

I have 2 BW recurves, a take down and a one piece.

I think of bows as "styles"....my BW bows are full sized, full riser style recurves. I don't think there is a better example of that style available. Quiet, fast, stable, perfect quality.

I am on my 2nd MA. The first was made in mid 80’s when choices were not as many. My new one I actually stopped at BW to order. Grip is important to me so I tried the different grips before I settled on one that fits perfectly. I also had them do some laser work. The camo may not be the choice of many but it fits me and my mood perfectly. I did change out the string because I have a love/hate relationship with D-97 and Flemish strings. It’s not noisy at all. I can’t say enough for the way I was treated by the BW crew while I nit picked over all my choices. One of the benefits I did receive was a veterans discount which I neither expected or asked for. Yes, their bows cost a bit more but between their customer service and choices I believe it’s worth the money.

I don't own any and don't plan on it any time soon but they are awesome bows!   for 1 you will get it sooner than anyone else and 2 they are one of if not the most toughest bows on the planet.   at denton hill years ago me and friends purposely dry fired one over and over and no limbs cracked,,, after my boot slipped on a wet rung and almost impaling myself onto the top of a ladder stick I threw one out of a tree fully strung like a spear hitting a stone wall,,,,it would hit so hard it unstrung then shot back up in the air flipping and landing back on wall but it did get a ding in riser on that one,       Ive poked coals in a campfire with one,  we even drove a truck back and fourth over a strung MA on an uneven dirt road in VT and it still shot fine..   search for the video BW made where they try to bend and destroy the limbs it just isn't ever going to happen with a black widow.

I’m just the opposite. I really like their recurves and I had a longbow a few months back and I thought it was the worst longbow I’ve ever shot. The guy I sold it to loves it.
