Strange thing with my Arrows.
« on: May 24, 2008, 06:35:00 PM »
I'm trying to tune my CE 250's, but first some back ground.
I'm shooting a 47#@28" bruin recurve, my arrows are CE 250 cut to 29 1/4" to the nock(bareshaft). I tried shooting them with 175's up front and am getting too much kick to the left (i'm a lefty) which says to me that it is too stiff. So i tried a 200 grn field point and i'm still getting alittle kick to the left at about 7 yards but it looks good at around 12-15 yards. Now the strange part    , when i go to around 25-30 yards i get a Hard kick to the right, which say thats it's too weak, right? So then i added the Gold tip weight system 20grn insert and at 20 yards or so it looks good, but when i go back up to 7 it's kickin left, and then when i go back to 30 it's hard to the right. I cant figure it out....  :knothead:

Ok so i tried to put the 200gn tip plus the 20gn insert ( for a total of 220gn)on one with fletching, and at all distances (except like 10ft) it flew nice and straight, but i did notice a little, and i mean very little (maybe 1/2" side to side) movement left to right, kinda squirrely, but it still hit straight when it connected.
So what do you guys think i should do?   :help:

Thanks
Paul.

Assuming you're pulling the full 28", I think that you're gonna need alot more weight up front for the 250's.

You will need quite a bit over 300 grains to get them to shoot well for ya, the 150 would be better but even at 29.25"s you will need at least 225 grains up front on them and most likely a bit more. Shawn

The last two times that I tried setting up new arrows using different shafts etc., I noticed that if I don't come to full draw I get a little wobble in my arrow flight. I hold an extra second or so, I feel that gives me a chance to get to full draw and my arrows fly more consistantly. I shoot a longbow 47 lbs. at 26" and use CE Heritage 150's 27 3/4" long with 350 grains in the point. They total almost 700gr. but fly well for me when I use good form.
I can try to send you the directions that Dr. Ashby sent me for tuning arrows. I was having some similar problems with my tuning and this got me arrows that I could live with. I wonder if they could be tuned even better, but I think that would take one on one, in person assistance from someone who realllly knows what they are looking for.

Like Shawn said - You are likely going to need some serious weight up front.  My 250's are full length and I have 250-300g up front on 56# and 59# bows drawn to 32+".  Perfect? No, but pretty good.  I'm still the problem (form, release, the list goes on).

i'm thinking that i should just go to the 150's. But the question still remains, why does it swing so hard to the right after about 30 yards? doesnt that means it's weak? Thanks again guys its a big help.

I believe it can be so stiff that can bounce of the riser to give a false reading.  I want to say that Ken Beck stated this in BW's tuning video.
