TAB WAR---SLAPPIN ME SILLY
« on: May 28, 2008, 06:16:00 AM »
OK I recently have attempted to switch to a tab, it seems though that the tab slaps me in the chops every time I shoot.
I anchor with my middle finger corner of my mouth, momentary pause and off she goes- yeah I know I know if it aint broke than why fix it.
I've always been a glove shooter just thought i might get a cleaner release with tab.
Im a big dude with big hands so i tried an xl tab from 3rivers and I have a large tab that i normally use for bow fishing, the smaller tab does seem to slap my face a little less. Am I on to something here?
Anyone else suffer from this? I feel like I'm doin it wrong-

Put your tab on and bend your fingers around the string. Draw it back some. See all the extra tab hanging out in front of your fingers? Get rid of it, 'cause it's smackin' you in the mouth.

Killdeer~oh no, it's never happened to me...

Do what Killy says soon or pretty quick you'll be ducking everytime you release. A fellow on this site (olddogrib?) made me one as a gift out of cordovan. Have gone to that over my spendy saunders that doesen't seem to hold up anymore.

I wear 2xl gloves but shoot a Neet med. tab. Seems I get a better release with the smaller tab, tried a lge. and groups opened way up!!!

I'd also recommend the cordovan tab.  I buy mine from Alaskan bowhunting supply.   They last for a loooong time.  Quite frankly I can't honestly tell you I've worn one out and for a long time I was shooting daily or every other day.  I don't shoot as much now though and I'm still using the same tab.  Lost my last one in 2002.

"something smacked Killie and lived to tell about it?"

I carry a wicked-sharp pocketknife, and fixed the problem snicky-snak.
Next?  :saywhat:

Thanks for all the responces, trimming seemed to solve the problem. I was afraid i'd develop some form of pre release panic if it continued.
