Refinishing a velvet covered bow

I picked this bow up off of the site that can't be named because it was cheap and the lines looked like a bow from the 50's or 60's (to my untrained eye).  I was hoping it was someone's homemade camoflague but it looks like a factory application.  Anyone know of bows that were made with a velvet finish?

The only velvet finish I ever saw was on an old Ben Pearson.

Groves made a bunch with "Flocked" finishes but that doesn't look like one.

I had an old Ben Pearson TD with a metal riser covered in velvet.  Factory finish.

I was thinking about taking off the finish but it is WORK.  That is one tough coating to get off.  I got enough off to see its a clear maple riser with brown glass on the belly.  I think I'll have to get a string on it and see if it shoots worth anything before I put that much effort into it.

I got a string for this bow at the STAR shoot and strung her up.  It's a 58" bow and according to my scale pulls around 35#@29" but feels a little heavier.  It has a flat shelf and I shot a few rounds through her and it wasn't bad.  I'm not going to put all the work into sanding off that flocking for a target weight bow.  I wouldn't mind stripping it if I could do so in a faster method.  Anyone know what would strip the flocking without damaging the glue?   I don't mind if it strips the finish too, I'll refinish with truoil or something but don't want to damage the integrity of the bow glue and have it blow up on me.
