Looking for paint remover for Fiberglass limbs
« on: June 02, 2008, 03:11:00 PM »
A co-worker just gave me a recurve. Nice to work with people like that.
The bow has not visible markings on the riser section but the limbs appear to have painted over with a dark moss green/black.
Can anyone recommend a paint remover that will let me strip the paint but not damage the laminations?

Thanks,

carefully scrape it off with a small knife...I've done several this way.

I recently did remove a bunch of paint - probably three layers from a bow.  I used acetone - and a rough towel - a LOT of elbow grease - took me about 20 hours total but it came out beautiful and no harm to the original finish.  I would not scrape it as you may go too deep.  Best of luck.  Ron

I use acetone as well and have used brake cleaner, which worked great, I have removed paint from a bunch of bows, some high dollar ones..  the only problem i have ever encountered was on a bear recurve, the bow specs were actually painted on top of the final sealer.. and of course it came off with the camo..I would be skeered to scrape..
