Finished my first 3 piece recurve
« on: June 07, 2008, 07:21:00 PM »
I approached this project with the overconfidence of 13 years of making selfbows and 8 or 10 bamboo laminate bows under my belt -How hard can it be to make a formula bow - Yeah right !!!!!!!!!

It all went south pretty quickly but with a little advice from lots of folks on trad Gand and my mates I got it done . I'm wrapt considering the mess it could have been .

Specs are 59" ntn , 47" @28 , 40 thou clear fibreglass , Australian beefwood venneer for the back cut too integrate the sap wood into the veneer , edge grain spotted gum tapered lamination for the belly , purpleheart limb wedges , spotted gum riser with beefwood and purple heart overlays , beefwood overlay on the recurves .

I carved a lions pawprint into a bone button and inlaid it into the riser , those that know me will get the "in joke" of a fairly rude translation of Tarzan saying Umgawa Simba when he wants a Lion to go away - I wished this bow would have on occasion .

The bow shoots hard and fast with zero stack or handshock .

regards Jacko

Good on Ya' Mate!! Sharp design and the inlays are a beautiful touch. I just happen to be enjoying a frosty Foster's, it's in your honor now.      :notworthy:
